The Tree of Life Terminology

The Tree of Life contains the ten Sephirot, Ein Sof (universe of light from above, I Am Presence, the Father), Shekinah (the light from below, the Soul in matter, Divine Mother), and Daat (pure knowledge).

Keter -- First Sephirot, Crown, the Absolute
                White Light

On top of crown chakra

Chochmah -- Second Sephirot, Wisdom,
                           White Light

Right hemisphere of brain, right half of face

Binah -- Third Sephirot, Understanding,
                 White Light

Left hemisphere of brain, left side of face

Daat – moving Sephirot, pure knowledge
              Invisible light (contains all colors)

Third eye, throat, heart (key into chakra system)

Chesed -- Forth Sephirot, Love/Mercy,
                    Blue Light

Right shoulder, arm, right half of chest, right half of heart

Gevurah -- Fifth Sephirot, Rigor/Strength,
                      Red Light

Left shoulder, arm, left half of chest, left half of heart

Tiferet -- Sixth Sephirot, Beauty/Harmony,
                  Yellow Light

Solar plexus to below navel, all internal organs of the torso

Netzach -- Seventh Sephirot, Victory,
                     Green Light

Right hip and leg

Hod -- Eighth Sephirot, Splendor/Empathy,
             Orange Light

Left hip and leg

Yesod -- Ninth Sephirot, Foundation,
                  Purple Light

Sacrum and sexual organs

Malchut -- Tenth Sephirot, The Kingship,
                    Golden light

Right below the feet

Shekinah -- Golden Light, The Bride of Existence, Divine Feminine

Below Malchut.  The center of the Earth

Kabbalah Terminology

Adam Kadmon

“Primordial man,” the “One Soul of Mankind,” man/woman in the highest state of perfection.

Adonai

The name of God, the storehouse of God’s creation, the spoken name of YHVH.

Angel

A divine packet of light.  A messenger of God.  Malakhim in Hebrew.

Bahir

The first book of Kabbalah surfaced around the eleventh century.  Means Brilliance.

Bitul

A stage of depression and/or sadness, a sense of loss, which can sometimes follow an experience of touching the Divine, merging with the bliss of the “One.”

Chalal Ha Panui

“The lamp of darkness,” empty void, a place of un-comfort and unease. When we are passing from one level of awareness to the next higher level we experience a sense of being lost and not knowing who we are any more.

Ein Sof

The infinite light of the all that is (God).

Elohim

The name of God.  God as justice.  The womb of creation.

Heaven

The angelic realms of light and beyond.

Hishtavut

The meditation of transcendence.  Ascending and descending into the realms of light to achieve stoicism (ability to be in non-reaction to either good or bad).

Hitbodedut

The meditation of contemplation and inner introspection.  The time when we speak to the personal God who knows our every thought and heart’s desire.

Kabbalah

The Divine outpouring of Pure Truth.

Kav

The ray of God’s light from the Infinite Wholeness.

Kavanah

One’s concentration, attention, devotion, intention, and yoking towards the Presence of Pure Creation (God).

Kavod

Glory.

Klipot

The ignorance which keeps the light of our soul in bondage, as the husk which incases the seed.

Merkavah

A chariot of light used to ascend into the heights of heaven, as described by Ezekiel in his prophetic vision.

Mitzvot

Good deed.

Neshamah

The Soul.

Nogah

The glow of Light from the Soul around the body.

Sephirot

The nothingness from the beginning of infinity to the nothingness at the end of infinity.  Angels of consciousness which make up the Tree of Life.

Shekinah

The divine feminine.  The Soul of light in all living matter.  The bride.  God’s Beloved.

Sitra Achra

The other side, the universe of destruction and evil.

Stoicism

The level of awakening where compassion and judgment are the same.  There is no distinction between good and evil.  The highest state of enlightenment.  A pure beingness.

Tov

Goodness.

Tree of Life

Our divine template, holds and transmits light between all worlds.  Consists of the Ten Sephirot, each Sephirot is a universe within our mind, contains the aspects of our psyche, as well as our spiritual blueprint.

Tzimtzum

To vacate, to become invisible.  God’s constricting of God’s self, creating vacated space (a womb), in which to send a ray (kav) of light; from this creation began.

Yechud

To bind, knit together, the split between the worlds, bringing us into an experience of “Oneness.”  The end of separation between our world and heaven, as well as, the worlds of light and dark.

Yetzeratov

The creation of pure goodness.  The pure light of Soul.

Yetzerharah

An intelligence of destruction and evil.

YHVH Yud Hey Vav Hey

The mystery of God, beyond all known consciousness, “Beingness.”

Zohar

The core book of Kabbalah, written by Issac the Blind in the twelfth century based on the Bahir.  Means Radiance.

Shekinah

Female manifestation of God in man (the soul)
